This charming little passage, typical of Onda, provides access to the upper area of the Castle.
The escaletes dels gats or the cat stairs, as they were popularly known by the inhabitants of this area, run parallel to one of the sections of the Moorish wall and in many cases were used by people living outside the walled city for refuge in times of siege or war. They would enter Onda and go up to the castle in search of protection and refuge, bringing with them their worldly goods, and sometimes even their livestock.
