Building where it was located in the 13th and 14th centuries, the Cort Vella, the first medieval town council, until its transfer in the 15th century to the Palacio de la Cort Nova.
In its basements, the presence of two dungeons known since the 15th century stand out in outbuildings of an ethnological collection. The dungeons are noted for their thick load-bearing walls, barrel vault and masonry flooring.
According to tradition, at the start of the 15th century during San Vincente Ferrar´s visit to Sant Mateu, a hermit that was imprisoned in these dungeons turned out to be the devil, since he managed to escape from one of the cells despite the shackles and locks
