Almassora Castle Remains

Almassora

Almost completely destroyed and located on the banks of the River Millars, only part of a section of the wall and part of a semi-circular tower remain.  They were built with rammed earth mixed with orderly masonry. Under the medieval structures from the 10th to 13th centuries AD lie the remains of the Iberian period. This was conquered by Pere Cornell and taken from the Muslims on behalf of James I in 1234. The castle was abandoned in 1247 to found the current town of Almassora.
