Built by the Muslims along the river Mijares, this small town once belonged to the Duchy of Villahermosa. After the expulsion of the Moors in 1609 the town entered into a phase of decline, which it would come out of a few years later.

What to see


Its architecture is rural in style and typical of the area, with interesting little streets. Notable monuments include the abbey house and the parish church. As you make your way into the town, you will pass a public washing place and the La Salud fountain, beside the playground. The main church can be found in the central square, while the Santa Cruz church lies a short walk uphill.

Its scenery is dominated by the river Mijares which combines with the surrounding mountains and forests to offer up a quite beautiful landscape.
