Coinciding with the summer solstice, the night of June 23 to 24, the festival of San Juan Bautista, patron saint of the town of Alcalà, is celebrated with the traditional burning of bonfires. This festivity, like many others on the calendar, shares pre-Christian elements with the cult of the saint and is very popular at European level, and especially in the Spanish and Valencian cases.
Both in Alcalà and Alcossebre, neighbors and friends gather and build firewood, furniture and other waste bonfires for the night of San Juan, around which is celebrated with the company of friends and family this magical night.
