Cycle tourism is an activity which combines exercise with tourism. It involves cycling and visiting the places which are found along the way. It is done for pleasure and not for competition, as such in cannot be called an official sport.
A person who is in reasonable physical shape and has a bicycle loaded with equipment can cycle between 50 and 150 km a day, depending on the type of terrain, therefore considerable distances can be covered in just a few days.
There are companies which organise cycling trips, and they tend to have a support van loaded with equipment, tools and spare parts should something unforeseen happen.
