La Pilarica

Сальсаделья

This is an urban devotional chapel monument adjacent to the facade of a home, the origins of which date back to the 19th century. What’s interesting about it is that it follows the pattern of a classic temple where the chapel is formed of two Doric order columns with a monolithic shaft supporting a stone horizontal arch carved with the initials of the Virgin Mary as an anagram. The structure is topped by a simple iron cross.

Standing out is the image of the Virgin of Pilar, situated in a niche between two columns over a marble cornice and protected by glass. It likely came from an Aragon resident just as occurred in other Maestrazgo mountain villages such as Catí, for example.
