Mexico Square is an exceptional example of “Indiano” architecture (by the rich emigrants to Central and South America who returned to their homeland of Spain) due to its uniqueness and historic, pedagogical, cultural and social value. It’s the main urban image of this town. The square features an immense decorative fountain and lavish vegetation with tropical species and a few palm trees. The Mexican colony of La Salzadella greatly contributed to the construction of this unique square; hence, it is known as Plaza México (Mexico Square) in its honour. Also worth noting is the fact that the square has 24 benches representing the legacy of several emigrants who made their fortune as matchmakers.
