There are many huts throughout the municipal area built of dry stone as a refuge for shepherds who needed protection from the weather. 

They would often have a square or circular floor plan and false vaulting would be supported on the walls to close the hut due to the approximation of the rows with the vertex.

These structures are an ancestral legacy of great antiquity and originality that have lasted throughout time. Castellfort has an important livestock heritage.  Besides the “barraques de pastor”, there are 36 cattle routes some 115 kilometres long with a number of troughs.
