The founding of the settlement is attributed to the Goths, before being occupied by the Moors and reconquered by King James I. It has been a stately home and a stage for battles, as during the Carlist Wars, in 1836.
The main activity is agriculture, predominantly citrus groves, carob and olive crops.
From the main road, enter the city through the San Antonio Arch. Follow the street and you will find the Calle Mayor (main street) and the Town Hall on the left. Continue on past these buildings until you reach the Plaza de la Iglesia (church square), on the left, and the Plaza del Toro on the right. From the church, you can wander down to the spring, the palace and the mill. The Plaza del Toro leads down to the Portalet and to the modern area of the village, as well as the San Juan promenade.
In a loop formed by the river Mijares, the valley joins up with the end of the Sierra de Espadán mountain range to the south and the Penyagolosa massif to the north. With an elevation of 200 metres above sea level, Toga has a mild, healthy climate.
