La Fuente de los baños

Among the many natural resources of Villa Termal, you can enjoy pleasurable walks along the river's footpaths, dips in the natural swimming pool and relaxing moments at its natural fountains. The wonderful viewpoints from the numerous spots and vantage points make the spectator relax and perceive how life, as with time, has been shaping the magnificent Montanejos landscapes. 

La Fuente de los Baños is one of the main tourist attractions of the area. It is a spring with an approximate flow of 6,000 litres per minute, that allows the Mijares river to recover part of the loss that occurs upstream in the diversion of the course to the Cirat dam.

It’s water was declared as a public utility by Royal Order on 13 October 1863. Due to its constant temperature of 25ºC, it has hypo thermal effects and makes bathing pleasant all year round. Additionally, it has hydro-chemical and biological properties beneficial to health. Due to its chemical composition (700 mg/l mixture of magnesium sulphate and magnesium bicarbonate) it is considered as oligometallic of medium mineralisation.

The physiography of the flow in this area has allowed the formation of natural pools that provide an excellent rest area, which is used for picnic and children’s games.

According to legend, the Moorish king Zeit-Abu-Zeit had the baths built so that the women in his harem would always stay beautiful and young.
