Paraje Natural Municipal de Peñaescabia

Bejís

The natural park has an area of 475 hectares and has an ecosystem of high interested from a botanic point of view.

It is La Umbría de los Tajos, where there are Mediterranean pine forests with black pines (endemic) and yew forests.             There are also very interesting trees in Peñaescabia, such as Spanish junipers, evergreen oaks, maples, etc., at the same time valuable species of fauna exist, included in the Valencian Catalogue of Endangered Species, mainly birds of prey such as the Bonelli’s eagle or mammals such as mountains cats and the badger.

In terms of the historical heritage , the San Cristóbal chapel, the Patrosa aqueduct and some old ovens should be highlighted, although, without a doubt, the three “chirotherium” trace fossils stand out, dating from 250 million years ago and are in the Partida de la Badina.
