The Santjoans house, in the middle of the town between Plaça Vella and Sol de Vila, stands out as a civil noble Gothic building. It belonged to the Santjoan house of nobles; hence, the name of this palace. The surname is originally Catalan yet was spread to the Kingdom of Valencia following the Christian conquest. There were many Santjoans noble homes in various towns between the 13th and 15th centuries.
