Located in the Oropesa de Mar’s historic centre or Old Town, the mission of the museum is to promote and highlight local historic heritage in a dynamic space for knowledge and reflection.
Oropesa del Mar enjoys a strategic location between the old communication route and the Mediterranean Sea, conditioning its history and architecture: its lookout towers, castle and fortifications are all part of its valuable heritage, surviving to this day as testimony the different attacks the town suffered over the centuries, some of them by historically well-known figures like Hayreddin Barbarossa, the feared Middle Eastern pirate, or Louis-Gabriel Suchet, Marshall of the Empire of the Napoleonic Wars of the 19th century.
Visitors can explore the history of Oropesa del Mar through models, audiovisual features and archaeological remains and establish the area’s links with the past; its identity and its roots.
