Castle Ruins

Gaibiel

They’re located opposite the town of Gaibiel. The primitive structure pertains to the Almohad period with subsequent extensions from the 14th, 16th and 19th centuries. There are also elements corresponding to trenches from the Civil War, and to walls belonging to a small habitat from the Iberian period. The open area that remains between the castle itself and the natural layout of the ravine, seems to be arranged as a space used perhaps as a turret. The Castle of Gaibiel extends over a small rocky promontory of approximately 350 square metres of built area, combining various construction phases from very different periods. Recent archaeological work has led to the verification of the existence of various rooms such as a kitchen with a conserved Moorish oven, a large chapel, an interior refrigerator, two water tanks, a courtyard area, etc.
