La Bora de las Peñas
The River Palancia has numerous places of interest where erosion and water have formed strange rock sculptures between impressive gorges. In addition to its landscape value, this spot has the added value of its location in an impressive high area containing numerous archaeological sites from the Neolithic and the early Bronze Age. Of these sites, the ‘Cueva del Abrigo I de las Peñas’ is highly noteworthy. It is a cave that contains multiple graves where the remains of at least twenty-seven young people have been found. Finds next to them have included important ceramic goods and funerary objects made from collars of limestone beads, seashells and spikes. This all points to the cave, which is only 10m², having been frequently used as an ossuary over a long period of time.
