Pina de Montalgrao seems to have been founded in 1363 by Juan Alonso de Jérica. It belonged to the royal family until 1431, when it was bought by Francisco Zarzuela, together with Jérica and Barracas. It later belonged to the Duke of Berwick, during the 18th century.

Economy

The main economic activity is rainfed agriculture (wheat and barley, among others) and the exploitation of forest timber. Construction and hospitality are other important industries.

What to see

Set out from the Plaza del Pueblo (main square), where the Town Hall can be found, a building dating from the 17th century. Other landmarks include a Churrigueresque church, the Virgen de Gracia hermitage, the Moorish furnace, the cereal mill and the museum.

Landscape

The town centre lies on flat land, surrounded by mountains. Santa Bárbara, at 1,405 m, a mountain full of Maritime pines and Pyrenean oaks, is the highest point in the municipality. Dry crops include cereals and animal fodder.
