This must have been a small castle located within the village, built at the same time as the village itself, meaning not before the 13th century. This is despite the fact that the area around Tírig has a great number of prehistoric settlements, as shown by the existence of numerous archaeological sites that feature some impressive cave paintings. These paintings are examples of the Levantine style of rock art, and have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.34
Nothing of the castle is left, but you can still see some wall sections in the village streets. These walls form part of almost every resident’s home.
