It is said that St Anthony the Abbot, who is traditionally known as St Anthony the Great, lived to an age of 105 and before his death he ordered that his remains be buried in an anonymous grave. Just as many artists have chosen this theme as the subject of their work, many towns celebrate the feast day of St Anthony on 17 January, including Oropesa del Mar.
