Zorita del Maestrazgo

Founded by the Moors high up in an area that came to be known as El Castillo ('The Castle'). The village was reconquered by James I, becoming part of the Morella region, before growing into an independent village dedicated to livestock and agriculture.

Zorita's economy is based on livestock, agriculture and services that reflect to the particularities of the town.

What to see


You can start your brief route through the town in the church square (Plaza de la Iglesia), heading past the Town Hall square (Plaza del Ayuntamiento) and enjoying wandering along the streets of the old town. Also, be sure to visit the upper parts of the town. At a distance of 2 km, you can find the Virgen de la Balma sanctuary.

Landscape


The landscape is largely mountainous, in tune with the rest of the Els Ports region. The river Bergantes runs along the bottom of the municipal district. It is hot in summer, with cooler temperatures at night, and cold in winter.
