Pilgrimage to Sant Pere
Catí has been a devotee of Sant Pere since time immemorial. Every year, on the Saturday before the first Sunday of May, the pilgrimage to Sant Pere de Castellfort is celebrated. The first known references are from 1321. In times of drought people went to him to ask for water and rain, in times of plague, to heal the sick. When there was nothing to ask for, people would go to him to thank him for the help they had received.
The festival begins on Saturday with "La Despertà" and starting from the Catí Church, the route begins to the Sant Pere de Castellfort hermitage. The next day, the return journey begins and between the two days, on foot or on horseback, they cover more than 60 km passing through mountains and ravines.
