These patron saint celebrations are dedicated to the Assumption of Mary
This celebration, called the “Asunción de María en cuerpo y alma al cielo” in Spanish, is also known as “la festa de la Mare de Déu d'Agost” in Valencian, since it has always been held on the 15 August. It has been one of the most popular festivals in the area since the time of the monarch Jaume I, who placed the kingdoms of Aragon and Valencia and the principality of Catalonia under his protection.
Every 7 years, the day after the Assumption sees the pilgrimage/meeting held with the village of Penyarroya de Tastavins in Teruel.
