The weekend nearest the 17th January one of the most traditional festivals of Maestrat and Els Ports is celebrated, San Antonio. According to documentation, it is believed that this festival has been celebrated in Sant Mateu since the 14th century. In this festival a procession is held, animals are blessed and primetes (a typical local sweet) and nueles are shared out. After this, the burning of the Devil takes place and the popular barbecue starts.
