San Antonio Abad is celebrated on the Saturday closest to the 17 January.
The long-established festival in L’Alcora has some interesting unique features. First of all, and unlike most of the towns in the region, a single bonfire is not built. Rather, each district builds its own and, following the compulsory blessing of animals, the official procession makes a visit to each one. In this way, the whole town takes part. The bonfires, animal procession and flavourful “Prim” (a small cake made from flour, sugar, liquor and olive oil) are the main features of this great festival. The resounding “¡Vitol a San Antoni!” chant frames all of the protection and clemency prayed for animals and riders alike.
