It’s an old medieval defensive tower of Andalusi Arab origin. The tower was part of the structure defending the area linked to a network of towers and castles that made it possible to control and monitor connections from Algimia and Alcudia de Veo, in addition to helping warn of incursions into the Sierra de Espadán. Thus, the Alfándiga Tower connected to the Almonecir Castle. It’s a square structure on a promontory. It’s built with Islamic rammed earth walls; the land had to be levelled with masonry work. The entrance is conserved through a door situated two metres above the base as is typical of Andalusi Arab watchtowers. Inside is a vault which was possibly used to cover the supplies area.
