El Pilón crowns the rocky hill upon which sits the village centre of Matet. It is a defensive construction of Moorish origin, undoubtedly erected when the old Muslim village became fairly important. Abandoned, the passing of time had partially reduced it to ruins.
However, today El Pilón has been completely restored, with interior stairs that provide access to the top. From there, you can take in the exquisite landscape usually reserved only for immortal eyes.
