The mill

Montanejos

On the banks of the Mijares, the ruins of the old flour mill from the 19th century can still be observed. At present, different works are being carried out for its restoration, maintaining the external structure of the building.

The mill was not an isolated element; it was attached to a network of pipes that allowed the correct distribution of the river's water throughout the year. Traditional mills used the grinding system for the collection, which consisted of a collection in kind, the owner of the mill keeping a percentage of the flour obtained in the mill.

As of the 19th century, new mills appeared in a factory regime, incorporating technological innovations and offering a better product. Already in the twentieth century, the first flour factories were installed, monopolising the entire cereal market, so the traditional mills had to close.
