Ermita de San Pedro y San Marcos

Xert

This was the old church of the village of La Barcella, at a distance of 5 km to the north of Xert.

What currently remains of the Ermita de San Pedro y San Marcos in La Barcella is a complex which consists of the church, the clergyman’s residence, the watch tower and the porchada, or outdoor porch, which was part of the hostelry.

The ermita possesses a modest and rustic yet beautiful exterior. It is a simple stone building which faces north-east, with ashlar supports in the corners and a gable roof. The sleek façade features an entrance with a rounded archway, a rectangular window above the door and ends in a curved ledge topped with an iron cross.
